Henri Nouwen’s teaching on the wounded healer has helped me understand that our wounds do not necessarily disqualify us from serving others; when surrendered to Christ, they may become places from which compassion, humility, and healing can flow. These teaching notes explore Nouwen’s vision of ministry as a shared journey in which we do not stand above those who suffer, but walk beside them with honesty, grace, and the hope we have received from God. I offer these materials as a resource for personal study, adult Bible classes, small groups, retreats, or other teaching situations, and you are welcome to adapt them to meet the needs of those you serve.
