Welcome to the Living Circle — a term Henri Nouwen used for the spiritual life, not as a straight road but as a circle walked again and again: solitude, community, and service, each leading into the next and returning us to the one before. This devotional walks that circle across the whole year. Each day invites you to begin with Scripture, reflect on a Nouwen-shaped thought, consider a devotional reading, apply the truth personally, examine your own heart, and carry a key thought into the day.

The devotionals are arranged by month, but the three themes are woven through all twelve: solitude forming us for community, community sending us into service, service returning us to solitude before God. Nouwen never treated these movements as steps to master once and set aside — they are a circle meant to be walked, season after season, for a lifetime. Wherever you are in the calendar, and wherever you are in your walk with Christ, you’re welcome here: time alone with God, forming us for deeper life with others, and sending us into humble, compassionate service.
