Love

Love: Its Source, Its Oneness, and Its Visible Life

Love stands at the center of the Christian faith, yet few biblical words are more easily reduced to sentiment or personal preference. Scripture presents something far deeper: love originates in the very nature of God, is revealed through the self-giving of Jesus Christ, creates a shared life among God’s people, and becomes visible through obedience, mercy, sacrifice, reconciliation, and practical care. These three studies approach that single reality from different but complementary directions.

Love as Oneness examines the deeper unity toward which love moves. Beginning with the oneness of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, it considers how love creates and expresses shared life in marriage, in the body of Christ, and within the family of God. It presents Christian love as more than affection: it is the lived expression of a real oneness believers already possess in Christ.

The Whole of Love provides the broadest biblical overview. It explores God as the source of love, love as the fulfillment of the law, the inseparable commands to love God and neighbor, the call to love our enemies, the relationship between love and obedience, the marks of genuine love, and love as evidence of eternal life.

Beholding Love turns specifically to the Gospel and Letters of John. John shows love flowing from the Father, revealed fully in the Son, demonstrated at the cross, joined inseparably to truth and obedience, and reproduced in the everyday life of the church. His writings challenge us to measure love by Jesus—not merely by what we feel, but by what we are willing to give, obey, endure, and do for another.

Together, these studies invite us not simply to understand love more clearly but to allow God’s love to reshape how we live. They ask whether the love we profess reflects the love revealed in Christ: a love received from God, shared in the oneness of His people, and practiced in deed and in truth.
